The 6th May saw the second Prima Solutions TwentyTwenty Challenge, our flagship annual event attracting teams from businesses across the Midlands to complete a marathon distance at the beautiful Carsington Water in Derbyshire. As well as a physical challenge, the event offers fantastic team-building and opportunity to raise vital funds for TwentyTwenty, adding to the fun!

The strong wind over the water may have pushed some of our participants off course during the canoeing section of the event, but that only added to the excitement and to an even greater sense of achievement as they crossed the finish line later in the afternoon, having also battled some pretty big hills.

We were delighted to have some of our young people tackle this challenge alongside their mentors. Robson completed the challenge with his mentor Julia and won the trophy for fastest under 18 year old. He was delighted with his award and said that he had loved every part of the event, even the hills.

Andre from our Derby Lifeskills Centre also successfully completed the event. In the morning he was feeling nervous about the magnitude of the challenge ahead and said he felt like giving up half way through. But he remembered how much TwentyTwenty had kept pushing him to finish anything he started while on the Journey to Work course, and so he kept going. He was so pleased to have finished that as he crossed the finish line, he said “I didn’t give up so I know I earned this medal. I have been able to walk away with the pride of achievement and knowing that I never gave up”. Andre wants to encourage more mentees to join in next year.

Another young person from our Leicester Lifeskills Centre - Charlie - volunteered at the event to practice her photography skills and worked alongside photographer Ken Hewitt, which she thoroughly enjoyed.

Mathew Burrell, Joint Managing Director at Prima Solutions “The day was a real success despite the changeable weather and challenging hills. It’s great to see more people at this year’s event, having even more fun. I would like to thank everyone involved for their outstanding efforts and look forward to having even more teams at next year’s event”.

The team from Joseph Cheaney & Sons: “Thank you from Team Cheaney for organising and hosting the excellent event on Saturday. A good day was had by all and there was a real sense of achievement at the end”.

Mike Hughes, CEO of TwentyTwenty: “The second Prima Solutions TwentyTwenty challenge event was a resounding success with all the teams negotiating a demanding 26 mile course to raise money for the charity. Harnessing the good spirited support of the business community in this way is only possible because of the incredibly generous sponsorship of Prima Solutions to whom we’re extremely grateful. Our partnership with them and the businesses we meet through the challenge event resources us to see more and more disadvantaged young people to build a brighter future”.

We would like to say a huge THANK YOU to everyone who helped make this event amazing, especially all of the volunteers who supported it, and Chris Meads Photography and Ken Hewitt Photography for great photos.

We're already looking forward to the 2018 event - watch this space!
